Myrtle B. Thornton

Myrtle B. Thornton, 87, of Patriot, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Holzer Senior Care Center. She was born May 6, 1921 in Gallia County, Ohio, daughter of the late Jehue B. and Thersa Skaggs Jackson. Myrtle was married to Ellis Emory Thornton on June 10, 1945 and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2004. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother and loved to quilt and cook. Myrtle was a member of Walnut Ridge Church and also a resident council member at Holzer Senior Care Center. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Nolan and Wanda Thornton of Patriot; four grandchildren, Angie Bruce King of Buffalo, WV, Sabrina Shannan Stover of Riverton, Utah, Charlene Johnny Arrowood of Oak Hill, and Jeremy Lora Thornton of Patriot; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two sisters, Goldie Quimby of Gallipolis and Helen Dailey of Patriot. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ellis Thornton, four brothers Floyd, Bill, Johnnie and Charlie Jackson, and five sisters - Mattie Ehrhart, Hazel Williams, Bessie Leaverton, Elsie Carroll Baker and Mildred Miller. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Thornton, Seth Arrowood, Bruce King and Shannan Stover. Honorary pallbearers will be Rich and Earl Neal and Don and Phil Pope.
