Nathan H. Clay, 87, of Gallipolis, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born October 18, 1926 in Branchland, West Virginia, son of the late Walter Scott and Mary A. Lucas Clay. Nathan was married to Florence M. Elliott on August 29, 1953 and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2011. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Gallipolis Developmental Center as a supervisor. Nathan was a member of Bulaville Christian Church and VFW 4464. He enjoyed going to church and working in his garden. Surviving are his daughter, Shirley (Lonnie) McCoy of Gallipolis; his son, David (Polly) Clay of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, Justin McCoy, Kelsey (Brandon) Mitchem, Garrison Salisbury, Kelly McCoy and Sherri McCoy, all of Gallipolis; two great grandchildren, Kylie and Reese Mitchem; three sisters, Louise Caldwell of Vinton, Ida Gibbs of Florida, and Mary Lou Gay of Mississippi; three brothers, Franklin (Alice) Clay of Circleville, Walter S. “Bob” (Geneva) Clay of Lugoff, South Carolina and Carl (Lois) Clay of South Carolina; special friends, Jim Stiles of Rio Grande, Linda Lear of Bidwell, Billy Tabor of Gallipolis; several nieces and nephews, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. In addition to his parents and his wife, Florence M. Clay, Nathan was preceded in death by brothers, Tom Clay, Edgar Clay and Lester Clay, one brother in infancy, three sisters, Ardith Hudgins, Virginia Racer and Redith Bartrum. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Joseph Godwin and Pastor Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Rife Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. There will be full military services by volunteers of area veteran’s lodges.
