Nelson R. Swain, 87, of Gallipolis. Ohio went home to be with Lord on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Abbyshire Place. Nelson was born in Crown City, Ohio on April 30, 1937, son of the late Stanley W. and Bessie Dillon Swain.
Nelson was a devout Christian and a member of Crown City Wesleyan Church, where he served on the church board. He also served on the Faith Wesleyan Church board in Lakeland, Florida and the First Church of God board. Nelson retired from OVEC Kyger Creek Power Plant as a production superintendent, working there for 42 1/2 years Nelson graduated from Fairland High School Class of 1955.
Nelson was married to Evelyn Freeman Swain for nearly 69 years; and she survives him in Gallipolis, along with two sons, Mark (Lynda) Swain of Corydon, Indiana and David (Sally) Swain of Gallipolis; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; his twin sister, Nelda Smith of Grove City, Ohio; sister, Naomi Gooderham of Crown City, Ohio; one brother, Verlin (Joann) Swain of Crown City; one brother-in-law, Retired Colonel Fred (Paula) Freeman of Omaha, Nebraska; a special cousin, Donna Ferguson of Proctorville, Ohio; a special friend, Joyce Morris of Gallipolis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by three sisters, Wanda Scarbrough, Bertha Mae Miller, and Aldean Miller and two brothers, Orman Swain and Paul Swain.
The funeral service for Nelson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Willis Funeral Home with Reverend Junior Preston officiating. His burial will follow in Rome Cemetery at Proctorville, Ohio. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Pallbearers will be Chase Swain, Tyler Handley, Drew Swain, Beau Miller, Isaac Clary, and David Swain II.
