Pastor Berkley E. Saunders

Pastor Berkley E. Saunders, 88, of Gallipolis, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Holzer Senior Care.

Born on September 22, 1935 in Gallia County, Ohio, Berkley was the son of the late Earl Saunders and the late Naomi Eblin Saunders McGuire.  On July 28, 1957, Berkley married Jewell G. “Judy” Puckett Saunders, who preceded him in death on August 16, 2023.  Berkley retired from Kaiser Aluminum.  He was a member of Rome Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the pastor for over 40 years.  Berkley was a graduate of Mercerville High School Class of 1955.  He enjoyed latch hooking, gardening, and keeping the creek banks clear.

Berkley is survived by his two daughters, Debbie (Mark) Sanders and Donna Saunders both of Gallipolis, Ohio; son-in-law, Mike Rossiter of Crown City, Ohio; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Saunders of Rio Grande, Ohio and Don (Doris) Saunders of Cleveland, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Judy, Berkley was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Rossiter and a brother, Joseph Saunders.

The funeral service for Berkley will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Sanders officiating.  Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery.  Friends and family may call prior to the service Sunday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
