Philip Neal Underwood

Philip Neal Underwood, 74, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born October 7, 1935 in Gallia County, Ohio, son of the late Herman Underwood and Ima Jean Straight Setliff. Philip was married to Elizabeth A. Chandler Underwood and she preceded him in death on January 17, 2002. He was retired from Kyger Creek Power Plant and was a retired member of the Gallipolis Fire Department. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and served on the Gallipolis Emergency Squad and the Gallia County Sheriff’s Department. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his daughter, Brigitte Thomas Elsenheimer of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Adam Elsenheimer and Jordan Elsenheimer, both of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, and PFC Jessica Elsenheimer serving in Afghanistan; two brothers, Lee Underwood and Bill Setliff, both of Huntington, West Virginia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Vivienne Trowbridge, Betty and Gordon Kemper, James “Sonny” and Mary Jo Chandler, all of Gallipolis. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Willis Funeral Home with Chaplain Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a Fireman’s Service at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the funeral home and full military services at the graveside by volunteers of area veteran’s lodges.
