Ralph Desnel McCormick, age 81, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. He was born July 29, 1927 in New Holland, Ohio to the late Ralph and Hazel Watson McCormick. A long time resident of Jackson, Ohio, he was known for his love of family, education, animals and the outdoors. Ralph retired as the Superintendent of Wellston City Schools, was a WWII Navy veteran, and an avid horseman. Ralph spent his retired days tending to his horses and farm. Ralph was a graduate of Wilmington College and The Ohio State University and a member of the National Foxhunters Association, VFW, AMVETS, the Masonic Lodge and the DAV. He spent many years judging fox hunts and horse shows. He served as the outrider at the harness races at the Jackson County Fair and proudly raced his beloved 'Ralphie' at Scioto Downs, many times ending up in the winner's circle. He is survived by his two sons, Charles Michael McCormick and Patrick Linn McCormick; granddaughters, Nichole Joey Ferris, Jamie Scott Payne, Jessica Dale Taylor; granddaughter-in-law, Kate McCormick Blosser; three great grandchildren, Jacob McCormick, Hannah McCormick and Gracie Ferris; two sisters, Jo-Ann Baughn and Sophronia Jane Reynolds and a very special companion, Marlene Haydon. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife of over 50 years, Pauletta McCormick, brothers, Roy and Robert McCormick and his grandson, Michael McCormick.
