Ray Saunders

Ray Saunders, 79, of Scottown, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at his residence. He was born on November 4, 1927 in Lawrence County, Ohio to the late John E. and Effie Cremeans Saunders. Ray was married to Doris Fellure on November 4, 1950 and she survives him. He was a retired truck driver for MT Epling, a farmer and a school bus driver for Symmes Valley School District. Ray graduated from Waterloo High School in 1947 and was a member of Okey Chapel Church, where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a former Mason Township trustee and enjoyed coon hunting. Surviving are his wife, Doris Saunders of Scottown; three sons, Donald R. Saunders of Scottown, Terry L. Paula Saunders of Ironton, and Jeffrey A. Debra Saunders of Scottown; six grandchildren, Melissa Saunders, Bradley Saunders, Kayla Saunders, Kendra Saunders, Kara Saunders and Kaitlyn Saunders; three great grandchildren, Maggie Saunders, Garrett Saunders and Blaik Saunders; one brother, Charles Helen Saunders of Ironton; three sisters, Betty Gilmore of Kitts Hill, Hazel White of Ironton, and Irene Willard Robinson of Fargo, Florida. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Vernard, Omar, Edward and Carl Saunders and one sister, Mildred Green. Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007 at the Okey Chapel Church with Rev. Jack Rankin, Rev. David Saunders, and Rev. Amos Wilson officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Okey Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the Willis Funeral Home on Friday, June 15, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Carl Saunders, Greg Gilmore, Randy Gilmore, Steve Gilmore, Bradley Saunders and Vance Fellure.
