Richard Lee Hansen, 64, passed away on August 21, 2013 at his residence from an extended illness. He was born on April 25, 1949 in Monroe, Michigan to the late Richard B. and Stella L. Nickel Hansen. Richard was a retired over the road truck driver, working for Victory Express of Dayton, Ohio for 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam 1969-1970. While serving his country he received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device. Richard was a member of Post 4464 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Post 23 of the American Legion in Pt. Pleasant, where he served as Adjutant. Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Reba Bright Hansen whom he married on February 11, 1974, sons Robert Michael (Kim) Hansen of Westerville, Ohio and Nathan Miguel (Rachel) Hansen of Bidwell, Ohio, six granddaughters, Kirstie, Kayhla, Kelsey, Kylie, Reagan and Kaydence, 3 great grandchildren: Brayden, Brooklyn, and Aubrey, two sisters Patricia (Ronnie) Hutchinson of Patriot, Ohio and Penny Starcher of Maryville, Tennessee, as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother Timothy Hansen. Richard enjoyed playing music. He was an avid drummer, playing in several bands over the years. He enjoyed traveling with Reba and spending time with his grandchildren which brought him great joy. Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Willis Funeral Home with Reverend Kandy Nuce officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens on Neighborhood Road in Gallipolis, Ohio. Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 23 of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. Active Pallbearers will be Michael Hansen, Nathan Hansen, Randall Craig, Chad Starcher, Heath Hutchinson, and Kenny Cavin.
