Robert Joseph “Joe” Thompson, 77, of Gallipolis, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. Joe was born December 15, 1935 in Crown City, Ohio, son of the late Aaron and Nancy Sheets Thompson. He married Corena McGuire and she survives him. He was a retired millwright at Kal-Can. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church of Gallipolis, and he served as a deacon at four other churches, Grove City Baptist Church, Victory Chapel, Hilliard Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church. He was also a 50 year member and past master of West Gate 623 F AM Masonic Lodge, West Gate Chapter and West Gate Council, and an honorary member of Ohio Valley Masonic Lodge #536. Surviving are Joe’s wife of 58 years, Corena Thompson of Gallipolis; four sons, Robert Joseph Junior (Brenda) Thompson of Gallipolis, Mark (Candy) Thompson of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Hal Curtis (Jakee) Thompson of Columbus, Ohio, and Paul Elder (Corinne) Thompson of Syracuse, New York; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan Thompson of Westerville, Alice Gail Thompson of Grove City, Viola McGuire of Gallipolis, Garnet Queen of Crown City, Stanford Thompson of Grass Valley, California, Glenvil (Doris) McGuire of Chillicothe and Lenvil McGuire of Ashville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremy Thompson, three brothers, Lee Marlin, Cline, and Donald Thompson and a sister Maridell Wisecup. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Alvis Pollard officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013. There will be a masonic service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
