Samuel C. Gray, 97, of Chapin, South Carolina passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at his residence.
Born on August 6, 1925 in Birchton, West Virginia, Sam was the son of the late Feldon and Maggie Earls Gray. Sam married Helen “Betty” Gray, who preceded him in death on November 4, 2013. He retired from General Motors. Sam was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II and earning the World War II Victory Ribbon; he also earned the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), the American Theater Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon.
Sam is survived by his sons, Sam C. (Jacquetta) Gray, Jr. and Ronald G. (Cindy) Gray; son-in-law, Wally Beider; grandchildren, Paul D. Gray, Melissa A. Gray, Wendy G. English, Anthony D. Gray, Steven “Todd” Gray, Ronnie Short, and Scott Beider; ten great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Sam was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Gail Beider; great grandson, Bryan Paul Gray; five sisters; and four brothers.
The funeral service for Sam will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Pritchard officiating. Entombment will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Military honors will be given by the Gallia County Funeral Detail. Friends may call Friday prior to the funeral from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
