Samuel W. “Sam” Kemper, Sr., 73, of Gallipolis, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 11, 2013 at Four Winds Community, Jackson, Ohio. He was born January 8, 1940 in Vinton, Ohio, son of the late Samuel L. and Minnie Mae Wiggins Kemper. Sam married June Potter on December 19, 1972 and she survives him. Sam was a retired laborer, carpenter and painter who had worked for Carter-Evans, Motor Car Brokers, and Evans Cattle Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Gallipolis, Ohio. Sam loved going to church. Surviving are his wife, June Kemper of Gallipolis; four sons, Samuel W. “Sam” (Becky) Kemper Jr., of Delaware, Ohio; Michael E. Kemper of Columbus, Ohio, Eric S. Kemper (Johnett McMillan) of Gallipolis, Ohio, Jeffrey W. Kemper (Heather Rouse) of Oak Hill, Ohio; one grandson, Christopher W. (Janelle) Kemper of Delaware, Ohio; one brother, Everett Kemper of Vinton, Ohio and one sister, Margie Griffith of Bidwell, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Mary Ellen, Reva, Elizabeth, Frances, and Fannie and four brothers, Eugene, Samuel Lloyd Jr. and Jack Kemper and one brother in infancy. Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Church of Christ in Christian Union with Pastor Robert Isaacs and Pastor Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday, February 15, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. Pallbearers will be Chris Kemper, Greg Thacker, Dave Thacker, Richard Griffith, Ronnie Griffith and Bobby Griffith. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Minnis and Dayton Garber. Arrangements are by the Willis Funeral Home.
