Victor D. Hager, 89, of Gallipolis, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at the Holzer Medical Center. He was born on July 9, 1919 in Midkiff, West Virginia, the son of the late Gilbert and Sarah Smith Hager. He was married to Gerry Wills for 43 years and she preceded him in death on October 23, 1987. Vic was a life long resident of Gallia County and a 1937 graduate of Gallia Academy High School where he excelled in athletics. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, serving in the 434th Squad Bomb Group from June, 1941 through 1945. Vic was a member of VFW Post 4464, the Gallipolis Elks Lodge, and a former member of Cliffside Golf Club. He enjoyed guitar playing, harmonica, gardening and was an avid golfer. Surviving are his two daughters, Suellen Greg Palcanis of Golden, Colorado and Peggy Oliver of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He will be missed by his family. In addition to his wife, Gerry and his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard 'Thomas' Hager, Joseph H. Hager, Mitchell Hager, Clark Hager, John Hager and a sister, Florida Wolford. Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Towe officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, December 18, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. Full military graveside services will be by volunteers of area veterans lodges.
