Virginia Mae Dennison

April 13, 1941 — December 4, 2024

Virginia Mae (McQuaid) Dennison, age 83, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 4th, 2024 at Kobacker House, surrounded by loved ones.

Virginia was born in Gallipolis, Ohio to Lawrence and Rose Myrtle (Sheline) McQuaid on April 13th, 1941. She graduated from Kyger Creek High School in 1959. Shortly after, she married the love of her life, Earl, on February 23rd, 1961, they celebrated 60 wonderful years together before Earl’s passing in 2021. Together, they had one son. Though most of her life, Virginia was a homemaker, she briefly worked as a cake decorator at Big Bear. She was also a long time member of the Eastern Star of Gallipolis.

Virginia, known to many as Mae, will be remembered most for her playful spirit, caring nature, and sense of adventure. There is nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. Aside from her family, she loved watching Wheel of Fortune, sweets of any kind (especially chocolate covered cherries), shopping trips, meticulously cleaning her home, black coffee at any time of day, late night casino trips and Elvis Presley. Virginia also loved to play card/board games and routinely made those around her play endless games of Yahtzee and Uno. She greatly enjoyed gardening and always had roses, tomatoes, sunflowers, and more blooming in her garden each year! Virginia was an avid traveler as well, taking many bus trips across the United States. However, she became a world traveler this year when we got her first passport at the age of 82. In 2024, she visited London, Amsterdam and traveled all around Scotland with her son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. She was able to see and do more this year than most people do in a lifetime! Her grandchildren will forever cherish the memories made with her on these travels, including attending an organ recital in Westminster Abbey on Easter Sunday, and the way her face lit up when she walked through the Keukenhof flower park in Amsterdam.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Rose; her brothers, Jim, Jack, Gene, Junior, Doug, and Sam; and sister Julie. Her beloved husband, Earl Dennison. And great (fur) granddaughter, Fiona.

She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Janette Dennison, grandchildren, Adam and Kristen. Great (fur) grandchildren, Murphy, Maeve and Eloise. Sister, Mary (Bob) Strait, brother, Luzon (Chloris) McQuaid, and niece Ellen (TFN), as well as other nieces and nephews. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A graveside service for Virginia will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Addison Reynolds Cemetery.
