Willa Deen Skaggs

Willa Deen Skaggs, 83, of North Charleston, SC, formerly of Gallipolis, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at her home after a brief illness. She was the widow of Herman Skaggs, who preceded her in death in 1992 after a tractor accident in Arcadia, FL. Born May 10, 1924 in Johnson County, KY, she was a daughter to the late Nathan Borders and Mary Lou Charles Borders. She worked along side her husband, Herman, in pastoring Pine Creek Chapel Church in Arcadia for several years. She lived in Gallipolis from 1946 to 1980, where she and Herman founded and pastored White Oak Baptist Church for over 30 years and pastored Prospect Baptist Church for ten years. She taught Sunday School at both White Oak Baptist Church and Heritage Cathedral in Charleston, SC. Survivors include one son, Freddie Connie Skaggs of North Charleston; two daughters, Jeri Jim West of North Charleston and Kathy Charley Stewart Dill of Athens, TN; three grandchildren, Kristi Adams, Rachel Skaggs and Rebekah Santaw, and three great grandchildren, Jacquelyn Adams, Nicole Adams and Michael Adams. A homegoing celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC. Her pastor, Rev. LaVaughn Young of Life Christian Assembly will speak at the ceremony and her grandchildren will pay a special tribute to her life and memory. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the time of service at funeral home. Graveside services will be a 2 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008 in Ohio Valley Memorial Gardens, Gallipolis, where she will be buried beside her husband. Rev. Carl Ward of White Oak Baptist Church will speak at Friday's service. Local arrangements are under the direction of Willis Funeral Home. Flowers or potted plants that can be replanted in her memory will be accepted at the Dyal Funeral Home. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting www.jamesadyal.com.
