William L. "Bill" Shipley, 84, of Patriot, Ohio passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Cabell-Huntington Hospital peacefully, surrounded by family after a long battle with illness. Bill was born on June 8, 1939 in West Palm Beach, Florida, son of the late Buford and Mary L. Ruhlman Shipley.
In earlier years, Bill served as a policeman and later went into the restaurant industry, working many years as a Regional Manager for Kentucky Fried Chicken. He finished his career as the General Manager of the Olive Garden in Vienna, West Virginia. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Gallipolis. He enjoyed photography; and his main priority in his life was his family, whom he loved more than anything. Bill enjoyed shooting sports and was a member of several gun clubs.
Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Carol Schutte Shipley; two daughters, Kimberley (Craig) Hatchell of Sumter, South Carolina and Amy (Shaun) Baldwin of Patriot, Ohio; one son, Scott (Christy) Shipley of San Antonio, Texas; three granddaughters, Samantha (Kat) Richards, Kasey Baldwin, and Paige Shipley; two great granddaughters, Carlisle and Cora Richards; and one brother, John Shipley of Bethel, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Shipley.
A Funeral Mass for Bill will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Tom Hamm officiating. Visitation for Bill will be held prior to the Mass Wednesday at Willis Funeral Home in Gallipolis from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
