Zelma Vivian Benson, 80, of Columbus, formerly of Gallipolis, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was born on October 6, 1927 in Gallia County, Ohio, daughter of the late LeRoy and Ora Thomason Elliott. She was married to James F. Benson Sr. and he preceded her in death in 1994. Zelma was retired from Robbins and Myers, was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are one son, James F. Carol Benson, Jr. of Oceanside, CA; one daughter, Joann H. Benson Vince Vitullo of Columbus; one stepdaughter, Deanna Kay Benson Kenneth Jones of Louisiana; four grandchildren, James F. Dawn Benson III of Colorado, Joanna L. Craig Fluks of Pennsylvania, Melissa S. Matthew Crusan of Columbus, Glen H. April Benson of Arizona; four step grandchildren, Mary Jones of Louisiana, Daniel Vitullo, Andrew Vitullo and Bernadette Vitullo, all of Columbus; nine great grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Jennie Elliott of New Philadelphia, Emmett Eleanor Elliott of Gallipolis, Carroll Elliott of New Philadelphia and James Sharon Elliott of Dover; three sisters, Florence Nathan Clay and Pearl Leifheit, both of Gallipolis, Joyce Greg Mantor Browning of New Albany; one sister-in-law, Eileen Elliott of Newcomerstown; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, James F. Benson, Sr., she was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Elliott. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor William Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens.
