David I. Wellman Sr.

David I. Wellman, Sr., 69, of Vinton, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Holzer Medical Center. He was born September 21, 1946 in Monaville, West Virginia, son of the late Ira Wellman and Irene Smith Wellman, who survives him. David was married to Angela Watkins Wellman and she survives also. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served with the Presidential Honor Guard. He was a retired painter. David loved dancing and enjoyed the outdoors. He could light up a room when he walked in it. He was a loyal friend. Surviving are his wife, Angela Wellman of Vinton; his mother, Irene Wellman; his three children, Miela (Dalton) Didelotte of Vinton, Brandy (Mack) Bowman of Ironton, and David “Hot Rod” (Stacy) Wellman Jr., of Grafton, WV; five grandchildren, Caroline Grace, Garrett, Jason, Brittany, and Mariah; two sisters, Donna (David) Russell of Flagstaff, AZ and Diana Racer of Delaware, Ohio. In addition to his father, David was preceded in death by a brother, William Daniel Wellman. A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m, Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Isaiah Crump officiating. Friends may visit with the family between 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in David’s memory to Willis Funeral Home to assist the family.
