Gary Lee Thivener, 58, of Crown City, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born November 16, 1953 in Ironton, Ohio, son of the late Cecil Gilbert Thivener, Sr. and Aljean Tyler Thivener, who survives him. He married Jenny Scott in Kentucky on August 10, 1995. Gary retired from Gallipolis Developmental Center where he worked as a TPW for 30 years. After retiring, he operated J J Bait Store. Gary enjoyed watching his grandson’s sporting events. Surviving are his wife, Jenny Thivener of Crown City; two daughters, Angel (Mike) Blazer of Bidwell and Amanda (Jamie) Caldwell of Gallipolis; his mother, Aljean Thivener of Parkersburg, WV; three stepchildren, James (Michelle) Lucas and David (Lisa) Lucas, both of Gallipolis, Joey (Jennifer) Lucas of Crown City; twelve grandchildren, Clayton, Devin and Daniel Lucas, who were raised in the home, Brandon, Mason, Madison, Brent, and Alex Lucas, Elijah Blazer, Haleigh, Jalea, and Blake Caldwell; one sister, Garnet Crites of Parkersburg, WV and one brother, Cecil Gilbert “Jr.” Thivener of Gallipolis. Gary was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Gilbert Thivener, sisters Ivena Liedel, Florence Gertrude Thivener and Margaret Ann Thivener. Services will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Patterson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery.
