John E. Winston

John E. Winston, 69, of Gallipolis, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Westminster Thurber Community in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on November 17, 1938 in Gallia County, son of the late Elmer and Mary Helen Shaver Winston. John was married to Patricia 'Patty' Winston on February 12, 1976 in Pearisburg, Virginia and she preceded him in death May 7, 1999. He was a 1957 graduate of Rio Grande High School. John was an Army veteran. He retired after 41 years of employment at Gallipolis Developmental Center and was a member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are four sisters, Gladys Craddolph and Glenna Figgins, both of Oak Hill, Betty Meacham of Dayton, and Dianna Yovan of Grandview; four brothers, Harold Winston and Gerald Winston, both of Columbus, Robert Winston of Wadsworth and David Winston of Galloway; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, a sister Virginia Williams and two brothers Clarence and Warren Winston. Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2008 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin Minnis officiating. Burial will follow in Mina Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. There will be full military services at the graveside by volunteers of area veteran's lodges. Pallbearers will be David Winston, Jim Kemper, Troy Bartley, Glenn Miller, Paul Keels, and Randy Crews.
