Leonard L. Newberry

Leonard L. Newberry, 77, of Patriot, went to be with the Lord at his residence, holding hands with his wife of 56 years and surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 6, 2013. He was born November 12, 1935 in Mason County, West Virginia, son of the late Robert and Velma McCarty Newberry. He married Jieniece Wandling Newberry on January 26, 1957 in Pt. Pleasant, WV and she survives him. Leonard was a farmer and a Southwestern District bus driver for 30 years. He attended Faith Community Chapel for 40 years. Leonard was a member of the chain gang at Southwestern football games for over 30 years. He was a supporter of the Rio Grande Women’s Basketball and Softball. He was a past member of the Gallia County Fair Board and Gallia County Farm Bureau. Leonard was “Farmer of the Year” of Mason County and Gallia County. He was also past president of OPSEA for the Southwestern District. Surviving are his wife, Jieniece Newberry of Patriot; a daughter, Lynnita (Will) Edmonds of Flatrock, West Virginia; two sons, Mark Newberry and Dale (Danella) Newberry of Gallipolis; four grandchildren, Kalee Edmonds, MacKenzie Newberry, Logan Edmonds and Karlee Edmonds; two step grandchildren, Drew and Abby VanSickle; three sisters, Alberta Fry of Flatrock, West Virginia, Ruby Stover of Akron, Ohio and Bernice (Lewis) Woomer of Florida; two brothers, Robert Junior Newberry of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia and Harry Newberry of Columbus, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Newberry and five brothers, Lawrence, Elmer, Delmar, Walter and Clayton Newberry. Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Willis Funeral Home with Rodney Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Marlin Baker, Ronnie Halley, Curt Elliott, Wayne Sizemore, Will Edmonds, Logan Edmonds, Jim Rose and Carol Lee Ruff.
