We are saddened but our spirits rejoice to announce Noel Smokey E. Stover, 87, of Thurman, formerly of Patriot, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning October 3, 2010 at the Holzer Medical Center Emergency Room. He will be greatly missed by those who loved and honored him. Noel was born May 5, 1923 in Artie, West Virginia, son of the late Eli Z. and Minnie P. (Perry) Stover. He was retired from the United States Army and IBEW Local 367. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict and was awarded many decorations and commendations for service to his country. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean (Colley) Stover in 1998, a son-in-law David Mays, one sister, Florie Grounds, and two brothers, Ira and Paul Stover. Noel is survived by three sons, Clint (Carol) Stover of St. Paris, Ohio, Eugene (Debbie) Stover of Bellefontaine, Ohio, and Shannan (Sabrina) Stover of Riverton, Utah; three daughters, Griselda (Gary) Conn of St. Paris, Ohio, Suzanne Mays of Bidwell, and Seleesa (Alan) Rucker of Thurman; 14 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren; one brother, Melvin Stover of Bidwell; two sisters, Irene Wiseman of Marmet, WV, and Jan Ford of Anderson, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Willis Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
