Robert J. Hargis

Robert J. Hargis, 81, of Bidwell, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2006 at his residence. He was born on February 21, 1925 in West Hamlin, WV to the late Steward and Katie Fleenor Hargis. He was married to Nora Price on January 31, 1950 and she preceded him in death. Robert was a retired county employee for Macomb County, Michigan. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his sons, Douglas Beth Hargis of Roslyn, Pennsylvania and Pat A. Jill Hargis of Elgin, Illinois; five grandchildren, Jonathan Robert Hilary Hargis of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, Emily Margaret Hargis of Pasadena, California, Gregory William Hargis, Katie Theresa Hargis and Jeremiah John Goodin Hargis, all of Elgin, Illinois; and a sister, Betty Joe Fuller of Huntington, West Virginia. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nora in 2004, sisters, Eliza Davis, Elva Midkiff, Nora Mullins, Maggie Vaughn, Mary Craddock, Willie Lee Hargis, Ellis Catherine Davis, and brothers, Ike Hargis, John Hargis, Lennis Hargis and Rex Hargis. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Mollohan and Pastor Andrew Parsons officiating. Entombment will follow at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens, Chapel of Hope Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. There will be a flag presentation at the cemetery by volunteers of local veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Robert’s memory to the Hargis Scholarship Fund at Judson College, 1151 N. State Street, Elgin, IL 60123.
